For my loot create project, I decided to go with a treasure chest design. The fun part of this treasure chest, is that it's also part monster called a "Mimic". I took inspiration from the video game Dark Cloud, where these treasure chest monsters can be found. I could have gone either way with the chest, having considered placing "loot" in it, but I really had fun turning it into a monster instead, plus I was able to have some fun animating with it.
I had loads of fun texturing the treasure chest in Substance Painter including working on the mimic parts and the scene that my treasure chest is in. I also wanted to take the scene further and create some torches on the walls and play with some mesh lighting to create a more dungeon/cave like scene.
Further with making the coins/treasure in the chest and scene, I decided to make my own texture as I couldn't find any that I liked. So decided to try and use Maya to make my own coin treasure texture and I am very happy with how it turned out.
In the video I rendered, I animated the Mimic attacking the camera in surprise. I even used some of the principles of animation into account and animated the handles as secondary animation. I would have liked some time to learn how to use controllers to animate the Mimic better, but I'm actually really happy with how I was able to use the parents of the object to animate it.
