This is one of my Typography assignments from University, a cookbook project which required me to design all of the elements in the book including our own recipes.
Having strong influences in heavy metal and so I decided that I was to incorporate my influences into this project including the food. Black was the theme, my lecturer thought it was going to be obscure and hard for me to pull off. I assured them that I knew a lot about the styles and art that people in this culture, some in particular like old, European and medieval styles and scenes, and so I wanted to go with this style as well.
I have practiced a lot with Flip-Script styled typography, which allows the viewer to read particular text and then again upside down to reveal something else. I wanted this style for the title of the book, though I decided for it to read "Black'en'Brutal" both right way up and upside down and a black letter styled typeface.
